Isn’t CTW too good to be true?

COMPUTERS THROUGH WORK (CTW) provides an amazing opportunity to have the latest computer equipment at home saving Tax, NIC and VAT - that means up to 40% saving on the retail price of a comparable high street package.

How does CTW work?

Your employer will provide a new computer package of your choice, complete with warranty and support. In return you spread the cost monthly via a reduction in your gross salary - known as a salary sacrifice. In this way you are able to receive your Tax and NIC savings (assuming Tax and National Insurance are paid at the standard rate).

How much can I spend?

Your maximum order value will be set by your employer, and packages start from less than £7 per week. You need to check that your reduced salary does not go below the national minimum wage.

Can anyone join the scheme?

Yes - if you have been employed for the minimum period set by your employer.

Will CTW cost my employer?

The scheme is designed to be cost neutral to your employer but will depend on the number of packages done.

Will my statutory benefits be affected?

In most cases the effect is likely to be minimal. However, for a small number of employees there could be implications in paying less tax and NI by accepting a reduced salary.

What technical help is available?

The computer or laptop is supplied with an extended hardware warranty from the manufacturer. There is also a support helpline answered by qualified Microsoft Certified Professionals around the clock 365 days a year on a freephone number. If you are busy during the day you can request a free call back service in the evening. There is even a free remote service which connects directly into your PC via the web and resolves any problems remotely!

KTD also offer unlimited lifetime support with no premium rate call charges and hands - on support at the showroom in Kendal.

What Packages are available?

There is a range of desktop and laptop computers from entry level equipment to Dual Core computers with 22” screens and wireless laptops. You can mix and match with software and printers.

What about benefit in kind?

You will have to pay benefit in kind (BIK) on the total cost of the equipment. Under the current rules, BIK is calculated at 20% of the value of the equipment for each year you have it.

Eg;-

Equipment value      i.e.    £1000 inc vat

BIK IS 20% of this    or      £200/ year

You pay tax on the £200 at your personal rate of 22% or 40%, i.e;-

   £200 x 22% = £44/yr or £3.67/mth

   £200 x 40% = £80/yr or £6.67/mth

What happens at the end of the contract?

At the end of the contract KTD will contact you to discuss your options;-

1. You can purchase the equipment for the market value from KTD (current estimate £50)

2. You can contact KTD to arrange removal and disposal of the equipment at a cost of £50

Who is responsible for the equipment?

You will be responsible for all equipment obtained during the scheme. The package must not be used for illegal purposes and should be adequately insured under a household policy to cover damage or theft.

What happens if I leave early?

If you leave before the end of the agreed term you will pay your employer the balance of the gross amount still to pay on the equipment, and if necessary, any charges incurred to recover the balance.

What online courses are available?

Every package includes a range of  online e-training courses which include;-

· Dreamweaver MX 2004 Series

· Photoshop CS Series

· Windows Vista Series

· Microsoft Office

· And all 7 modules of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
